Czech national handed 21-year sentence for joining fights in Ukraine

January 4th, 2022

The Prague Municipal Court on Tuesday sentenced Czech national Martin Sukup in absentia to 21 years in prison for his role in a terrorist attack and participation in a terrorist group for having actively joined the fights on the side of pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. The verdict is not legally binding. The man, who is prosecuted as fugitive, would have originally faced from 12 to 20 years in prison, but the upper sentence limit was increased by one-third as he committed the crimes in favour of an organised criminal group, according to the prosecutor.
