Czech Liberec wants fine to be used to remedy Turow mining impact

September 21st, 2021

The Liberec Region, bordering on Poland, wants the European Commission to launch a special subsidy programme and use the fine collected from Poland over its Turow mine operation to remedy the mining's negative impact on Czechs, the Regional Assembly said in a resolution today. The money should be mainly used to secure alternative drinking water sources and the monitoring of noise, dustiness and subsidence of the ground in the north Bohemian area afflicted by the operation of Turow, a lignite mine situated near the border.
