Czech constitutional judge Katerina Simackova will join the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg on December 13 when she will make a ceremonial statement in front of the court plenum, Constitutional Court (US) spokeswoman Miroslava Cihalikova Sedlackova told CTK. Simackova will replace Ales Pejchal, whose ECHR mandate expires in late October. Along with her, the post of a ECHR judge was contested by another two nominees for the Czech Republic - Supreme Court judge Pavel Simon and Supreme Administrative Court judge Tomas Langasek. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) elected Simackova to the ECHR a week ago.
