The Prague High Court on Tuesday upheld a 15-year prison sentence for Vatik Muhammad Yousuf Sammarrai, a fugitive Iraqi national, over his departure from Czechia to fight for the Islamic State militant group, definitively convicting him of a terrorist attack and participation in a terrorist group. The appeals panel of judges dismissed the argument by Sammarrai's defence lawyer Jan Krivanek that the conditions for trying his client as a fugitive had not been met. Krivanek pointed out that Samarrai's whereabouts are not known, as neither is the answer to the questions of whether he had learned about being prosecuted and whether he is still alive.
