Culture Minister Baxa gives up post of Plzen mayor

January 17th, 2022

Czech Culture Minister Martin Baxa resigned as the Mayor of Plzen on Monday in line with his previous statement that he would give up this post if nominated for a ministerial position in the government of Petr Fiala. Pavel Sindelar, Baxa's first deputy mayor, replaced him at the city's helm, being elected in a secret ballot. There were no other candidates. With a break, Baxa, 46, led the fourth largest city of the Czech Republic for more than seven years.
