Up to 1,000 more people with coronavirus infection would need hospital treatment at the intensive care wards, if it were not for Covid vaccines, director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (UZIS) Ladislav Dusek told CTK and Czech Television (CT) on Tuesday. On Monday, 256 people were being treated at intensive care units in the Czech Republic. Out of them, over two thirds have not been vaccinated. In total, 1,813 Covid-positive patients were in hospital on Monday. Last year, nearly 7,500 people were hospitalised with Covid, more than 1,100 at intensive care units. Even though the current numbers are lower than those from 2020, some hospitals started reducing elective care already.
