Court rejects Iranian businessman Zadeh's plea bargain

October 11th, 2021

The Regional Court in Brno did not approve the plea bargain of Iranian businessman Shahram Zadeh, who was being tried for high tax evasions from 2016, over mistakes in the deal on Monday. Under the plea bargain between the defendant and the state attorney, Zadeh was to receive a nine-year prison sentence and a pecuniary punishment of 17 million crowns. This was a cumulative prison sentence. The court previously imposed eight years in prison on Zadeh for having influenced witnesses. Zadeh has already spent about 6.5 years behind bars. The Brno court adjourned the proceedings on a new plea bargain until October 29.
