Constitutional Court annuls part of election law

February 3rd, 2021

The Czech Constitutional Court (US) has annulled a part of the election law for violation of equality of suffrage and chances of the running entities. Coalitions of parties and movements will need just 5 percent of the vote to get into the Chamber of Deputies. The US has cancelled the additive clauses that set down 10, 15 and 20 percent for the coalitions depending on the number of their members. The court also changed the paragraphs regulating the number of lawmakers in regions and the course of the scrutiny or distribution of mandates arising from elections.
