The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe held a debate on Tuesday on the subject of democratic institutions in Poland, after which the MEPs warned against breaking democratic rules in Poland. During the debate, MEPs and representatives of the CoE's member states presented their conclusions concerning a CoE report assessing Poland's judicial reforms. MEP Azadeh Rojhan Gustafsson gave a negative assessment of judicial reforms in Poland, citing the findings of the CoE's advisory body, the Venice Commission, and adding that the Polish government showed no signs of willingness to cooperate with the Council of Europe. Dominik Tarczynski of the EC-DA group asked the German and French Socialists: "Who chooses the judges in Germany?" adding, "Thanks to the French parliamentarians for caring about us. But who beats people on the streets of French cities? Take care of yourselves. We, Poles, have it good."
