Slovak President Zuzana Caputova on Thursday thanked her Austrian counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen via a video call for the medical aid Vienna offered Bratislava on Wednesday, the APA news agency said. The Austrian Defence Ministry announced on Wednesday afternoon that it was ready to send the Austrian army's medical personnel to Slovakia to help its neighbour to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. This followed after the Slovak government on the same day approved the Health Ministry's request to activate the European Union civil protection mechanism in the context of the deteriorating pandemic situation, which allows 25 foreign nurses and ten doctors to come and lend a hand to Slovakia. The same kind of help has also been offered to Slovakia by Poland.
