Belgian top police officer punished for death of Slovak man

Belgian authorities meted out financial punishment for Andre Desenfants, administrative police chief and the second highest police officer in the country, for the death of a Slovak man who died in a hospital after being detained at the Charleroi airport in 2018, Belgian media have reported. Desenfants will be stripped of a part of his salary for two months. Furthermore, he will not be promoted for five years. Slovak Jozef Chovanec, 39, who was often travelling for work reasons between Slovakia and Belgium, was detained after a brawl with the police at the airport in Charleroi on February 23, 2018.
