Babis disagrees with mechanism to distribute funding for EU recovery

May 28th, 2020

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis disagrees with the European Commission's proposed mechanism of dividing the money from the recovery fund to help the economies of member states hit by the coronavirus pandemic, he told CTK on Thursday. He is opposed to unemployment playing a significant role in the aid distribution. The states that managed to keep unemployment low even during the crisis should not be penalised, Babis said. The Czech Republic is set to receive almost 20 billion euros from the special recovery fund totalling 750 billion euros that the European Commission (EC) plans in aid to EU countries.
