Over half of Polish firms receive govt aid

May 21st, 2020

Fifty-seven percent of Polish companies have received government aid so far, PM Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday. Morawiecki, visiting Zambrow, in eastern Poland, said that the percentage of firms planning layoffs due to the coronavirus pandemic fell from 28 percent in March to 8 percent in April. Comparing this to data from other countries, the PM said that the situation of the Polish economy has become "stabilised." The PM also quoted data according to which 60 percent of firms had to cut the scope of their activities, however. Fully 57 percent of firms received state aid under the Financial Shield scheme.
