House Speaker Laszlo Kover on Tuesday met his Slovak counterpart, Boris Kollar, and discussed strengthening regional ties, support for ethnic communities and EU advocacy. After the talks in Budapest, Kover said "national communities" played an important role in strengthening international ties. Kover said that the work of Slovakia's new government had raised hopes of development on that count. The two speakers pledged to do everything in their power to boost regional cooperation and the work of the Visegrad Group. Hungary and Slovakia's cooperation is also important for the future of the European Union, Kover said, adding that the EU provides an opportunity for member states to advocate for their interests. Cooperation gives smaller countries weight within that framework, he said. Kollar said Slovakia strove for good relations with Hungary.
