European Parliament for more pressure on Poland, Hungary

January 16th, 2020

The European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on Thursday concerning the rule of law in Poland and Hungary, in which it stated that the situation in both countries had been worsening. The EP appealed to the European Commission and the European Council to use to use all tools at their disposal to prevent a serious breach of common values. There were 446 votes for the resolution, 178 against and 41 abstentions. The text, prepared by the five main political groups in the EP, underlined that any clear risk of a serious violation of EU values by a member country does not concern only this state but also has an influence on other EU countries.
