Duda vows never to sign bill lowering military pensions

August 15th, 2019

Polish President Andrzej Duda said during ceremonies marking Polish Armed Forces Day in Katowice, southern Poland, that he would never sign a bill on lowering the military pension, "hurting those who have served Poland." During his speech, the president referred to media reports on the possibility of reducing military pensions. He called them "gossip" and "absolute, disgusting untruth." He also appealed to politicians not to use such "false arguments" in the ongoing election campaign. "It's just heinous and indecent. Heinous not because it happens in the election campaign, but because it raises the fear of women who are often left alone after the death of their husbands," Duda said.
