Caputova underlines need to support culture

May 21st, 2020

During her special visit to the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava on Thursday, President Zuzana Caputova pointed out that the coronavirus outbreak has hit culture and the arts as well as other areas, so she invited people to visit museums, galleries and other cultural institutions. "In the period that is behind us, when we were isolated and reduced our social contacts, many of us resorted to a good book, music or a good film," Caputova said. "In these difficult times we've especially become aware of the uplifting and cultivating effect that culture and the arts have on us. However, there's need to say that this area of life is suffering significantly in economic terms," the president said, underlining that cultural institutions and artists have suffered huge financial losses due to the forced closures.
