Polish ruling parties agree with president's call for demonstration freeze

The two Polish ruling coalition parties on Wednesday praised the Polish president's appeal to suspend demonstrations during the Euro 2012 soccer tournament. Secretary of the senior ruling Civic Platform Pawel Olszewski said the request was justified, but may prove ineffective. The opposition Law and Justice and the Solidarity trade union are unlikely to comply, he said. Janusz Piechocinski of the junior ruling Polish People's Party said the president's initiative was "logical and rational."
