Polish People's Party submits draft amendments to press law

The Polish People's Party (PSL) authored a bill amending some key elements of the press law to make it compatible with European standards and rulings passed by the Constitutional Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The bill takes account of the July, 2011 ruling by the European Human Rights Court which said that a journalist cannot be penalised for publishing an interview without prior authorisation. Under the amendment in such situations civil code provisions will apply instead of penal laws.
