Polish govt plans to satisfy needs with domestic gas

May 10th, 2012

The government aims to meet Poland's natural gas requirements with domestic gas extraction by 2020, Treasury Minister Mikolaj Budzanowski said on Thursday. Factors independent of Poland nowadays make the country pay a high price for energy, he said. "Today we extract 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas, while consume 14.5 billion. We aim to increase extraction by 10 bn cubic metres - it is a very tangible target towards which we should direct our investment efforts," Budzanowski said at a treasury committee meeting in Sejm, the lower house.
