Slovakia should discuss the issue of tightening up border checks and border protection, foreign ministry state secretary Martin Klus said before a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, stressing the need to avoid a complete closure of the borders. "Although the omicron variant of coronavirus has been confirmed in at least ten EU countries, there's no reason to panic," said Klus. "It's better safe than sorry. As it has reached the Schengen area, our chances of making any major changes are quite limited," he said, adding that drawing up a list of countries entailing mandatory quarantine due to omicron no longer made sense.
