Czechs celebrate Victory Day

May 8th, 2012

Czech President Vaclav Klaus, Prime Minister Petr Necas, Prague Archbishop Dominik Duka and other senior political and military representatives celebrated the 67th anniversary of the end of WWII on Tuesday. Praguers watched the military parade and wreath laying ceremony at the National Memorial at Vitkov Hill. "I think that the ceremony has become a dignified affair that is not exaggerated or inflated. It exactly corresponds with our character, the character of our nation. I am glad that it has been established so," Klaus told journalists after the ceremony. Necas said May 8 was the day the Czech nation had been saved.
