Czech parties agree on presidential campaign spending cap

May 14th, 2012

The Czech government coalition and the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) have agreed on a spending cap on the presidential campaign of 50 million crowns for both rounds combined, representatives of the senior ruling Civic Democrats (ODS) and the CSSD said on Monday. Up to 40 million crowns can be spent on the first round and another ten million for the second round, Marek Benda (ODS) and Jeronym Tejc (CSSD) said. The Chamber of Deputies is expected to pass a bill to this effect in June.
