Czech left would gain strong majority in general election - poll

May 9th, 2012

The Czech opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and Communists (KSCM) would together gain a comfortable majority of 138 seats in the 200-seat Chamber of Deputies if a general election were held now, the STEM agency's fresh poll has shown. The other parties that would re-enter parliament are the governing Civic Democrats (ODS) and TOP 09. The Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), who were ousted from the lower house of parliament in the previous elections two years ago, would end 0.2pc short of crossing the 5pc threshold.
