Czech diplomacy against foreign intervention in Syria

Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said he opposed a foreign intervention in Syria where the situation developed into a civil war with not only one side of the conflict to be blamed. "It is an issue Syrians should solve only with the neighbouring Arab states, if at all. But I am strongly against a foreign intervention there. Our own history taught us that an invasion of allied states mostly is not very popular," he told CTK, referring to the intervention by Warsaw pact militaries headed by the Soviet army in Czechoslovakia in 1968.
