Czech court sentences Ukrainians for people trafficking

May 2nd, 2012

The Usti regional court on Wednesday sentenced three Ukrainians to five years in prison for people trafficking and application of slave labour. A lower-level court had imposed seven-year prison sentences on the three suspects, but an appeals court cancelled the verdict and ordered new proceedings. All three suspects pleaded innocent and they appealed the verdict on the spot. According to the prosecution, the Ukrainians misused the work of more than 20 Romanian and Bulgarian citizens. They cooperated with at least three firms that hired labourers from them.
