Contested media law provisions sent to top court

May 8th, 2012

The ombudsman for fundamental rights Mate Szabo has asked the Constitutional Court to annul several sections of the media law, Szabo's office told MTI on Tuesday. Szabo said the provisions of the medial law stipulating the election of the Media Council's head and members, and the termination of their contracts, are impossible to collectively interpret and apply. Also, he said contradictions in internal regulations indirectly raise concerns about the protection of the right to freedom of opinion, press freedom and the right to the unrestricted supply of information.
