Jan Blatny has not been sacked from the post of health minister for his negative stance on the Russian Sputnik V Covid vaccine, Prime Minister Andrej Babis told reporters after inaugurating Blatny's successor, physician Petr Arenberger on Wednesday. The Czech Republic will wait for the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) stance on the Russian vaccine, Babis added. He also said that the reason for Blatny's dismissal was not dissatisfaction with his work, but that they had different opinions about the health-care sector's functioning. Blatny's dismissal is not a political decision, Babis stressed, while Blatny had understood it as such.
