Within the framework of the cooperation of the Visegrad Group (V4), H.E. Péter Magyar, Prime Minister of Hungary, H.E. Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, H.E. Robert Fico, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and H.E. Donald Tusk, President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland met on June 23, 2026 in Gödöllő at the invitation of Hungary, holding the Presidency of the Visegrad Group.
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Visegrad Declaration by the “Founding Fathers”, President Václav Havel, President Lech Wałęsa, and Prime Minister József Antall, which gave birth to the Visegrad Group, the Prime Ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to the revitalization and strengthening of the Visegrad Group as a key platform for regional dialogue and cooperation.
The Heads of Government of the Visegrad Group jointly acknowledged that the V4 countries have returned to their roots and agreed to strive for closer cooperation than ever before within the framework of the historic Visegrad Group. The Prime Ministers agreed to strengthen the V4 cooperation, building on the shared interests and joint achievements that have already been demonstrated in the past in areas such as joint positions on the European Union policies, such as tackling high energy prices and migration. At the same time, the leaders also agreed to seek cooperation with external partners based on shared interests. Within the framework of the V4+ format, the Visegrad countries will closely cooperate with regional, European and global partners in the future.
The Prime Ministers of the Visegrad Group have identified the areas where the four countries have common interests on the European stage, thereby enabling them to take joint, coordinated action. Such current topics include, among others, the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) including cohesion and agricultural policy; resilient single market; sustainable agri-food sector; the merit-based EU integration of candidate countries; the balance between the clean transition and competitiveness (especially the revision of the ETS), the proposal package on automotive industry and trade policy. In this regard, the Heads of Government agreed in Gödöllő to ask their relevant ministers and EU sherpas to reestablish channels of cooperation in the field of the EU policies in order to reinstate the previously efficient coordination framework of the Visegrad countries.
The Prime Ministers agreed that close regional cooperation is particularly important in the field of regional transport and energy infrastructure development, primarily along the North-South axis. Furthermore, in order to enhance competitiveness of the region, intensified cooperation is needed in the fields of digitalization, artificial intelligence, cross-border cybersecurity and digital public services. The leaders agreed on the need to continue the previously initiated regional infrastructure projects and to explore new forms of financing. The Heads of Government also agreed on the importance of further developing civil and cultural ties in the region, as well as the necessity of continued support for the work of the International Visegrad Fund (IVF). The leaders will instruct their respective ministers to identify opportunities for joint regional cooperation benefiting the people of the V4 countries by the end of 2026 and report back to the Prime Ministers.
