Visegrad Group Becomes Stronger

18 April 2007, Prague

Meeting of Presidents of Parliaments of the Visegrad Group (comprising Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic) took place in Prague today.

"We discussed first of all the ways how to strengthen the Visegrad Group on the level of Presidents of the Parliaments. We signed an agreement institutionalising the Visegrad cooperation on this level besides the already existing level of the Presidents and Prime Ministers. I think that with the increasing role of the national parliaments in the decision-making process in the European Union, it is necessary to adapt also meetings and negotiations of Presidents of the Parliaments. My fellow Presidents share this opinion. I feel it as a kind of a turning point in the development of the Visegrad Group on parliamentary level," said the President of the Czech Senate Přemysl Sobotka, who had initiated the meeting.
