Communism was defeated, but a great deal of new challenges such as populism have arisen which must be faced so that the events of 1989 are not eliminated, former Polish president Lech Walesa said at a conference on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain today. Europe must debate its foundations, its economic model and look for an answer to the problem of populism and political lies, Walesa said.
