V4, Benelux parliament chairmen discussing EU future in Slovakia

The parliaments of EU members are important in the debate on the future development of the EU, but the powers of the EP should not be weakened, Gusty Graas, the chairman of the Benelux Parliamentary Assembly, said at the meeting with the V4 countries today. A stronger voice of national parliaments does not mean that the EP should have less powers, Graas said. He also advocated the solidarity principle within the EU. Along with parliament chairpersons from the V4 and Graas, the meeting was attended by their counterparts from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
