Hungary's public sector is in a "catastrophic state", trade union representatives have said, calling for an immediate across-the-board wage hike. A labour shortage in all sectors is causing huge difficulties for citizens and public service employees alike, Erzsebet Boros of the public employees' trade union (MKKSZ) said at a news conference on Tuesday, held with the head of the SZEF public conciliation body Andras Foldiak. Foldiak said the sector could no longer carry out tasks adequately. Key problems are "incredibly low wages" and the sector's "messy" salary adjustment policies, he said.
