Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission, has praised the social policy pursued by Poland's ruling party Law and Justice (PiS), Deutsche Welle's Polish-language service reported. "Not everything being done (by populists) is bad," Timmermans said during a meeting with journalists in Berlin when commenting on the causes of success "right wing populists" in Europe. The EC official noted that PiS was right to devote greater attention to social affairs. "It was necessary. The previous government neglected this sphere," Deutsche Welle quoted Timmermans as saying. Timmermans, the European social-democrats' candidate for the next head of the European Commission, said he plans to take part, including in Poland, in the campaign for the May European election.
