Tender for police cars cancelled over discrimination of bidders

June 14th, 2019

The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (UOHS) has cancelled a tender for passenger and special police cars for the interior ministry worth 2.25 billion crowns (EUR 88.1m), the webpage of the office says. The winner of the scrapped tender was to sign a framework agreement for the delivery of passenger cars as well as cars in a specialised police version for 2018-2021. The anti-trust office started dealing with the case in January. In March, it decided to cancel the tender procedure and it banned the ministry from signing a deal with its winner pending the end of the anti-trust proceedings. The UOHS said the conditions of the tender had been discriminatory. It argued that the limitation of the car versions to the types sedan and hatchback, the demand of a five-door chassis as well as the minimum dimensions of the car interior were doubtful.
