Slovak union supports govt proposal to increase night-shift pay

November 30th, 2017

Engineering trade union KOVO will support increases in bonuses for night-time, weekend and holiday work as part of the government's package included in an amendment to the labour code that is currently being prepared, KOVO chief Emil Machyna told a news conference in Zilina on Thursday. Around 23 percent of people in Slovakia work night shifts or non-standard hours. "Those who have not tried working at night can hardly understand what incredibly hard work it is and what impact it has on family life and on a person's health. We assume that both night work and non-standard hours should be limited as part of the digitisation of the industry and all the measures that are being adopted so that people will have time for their families," Machyna said.
