Slovak MEPs concurred that justice is needed in digital taxation

November 8th, 2019

It's necessary to set up a fair system in digital taxation, MEPs Robert Hajsel (Smer-SD), Martin Hojsik (Progressive Slovakia/PS) and Ivan Stefanec (Christian Democrats/KDH) agreed at an event dedicated to the current European issues organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham), Euractiv Slovakia and the Republican Union of Employers (RUZ) on Friday. According to Hajsel, the EU must also have the courage to fight tech giants and enforce taxation of them. "Simply, these taxes need to be set up so that it's still acceptable to them, but at the same time, the EU budget must benefit from this," he noted, adding that following the introduction of such digital taxation, billions of euros could be added to the budget that could be further used to increase competitiveness, for example in the digital agenda.
