Slovak govt approves ID card for children under 15 years of age

August 22nd, 2019

All children under 15 will have ID cards without photographs by the end of 2021, as the government approved a proposal put forward by Interior Minister Denisa Sakova to this effect at its session on Wednesday, with the stated reason being the digitalisation of health care. An ID card without facial identity will serve as access to electronic health records. Chip authentication will be the only way to access the documentation from 2022. Therefore, the police will automatically send ID cards to children under 15 years of age without signatures and the holder's photograph. This ID card will also be given to people who have an identity card without a chip with unlimited validity, which was issued up to June 30, 2012 to people over 60 years of age.
