Coal mines in the Upper Nitra area cannot be shut down immediately, with regard to Slovakia's energy security, and the need for power supplies for industry in the region and heat supplies for households in the district town of Prievidza (Trencin region), said Deputy Prime Minister for Investment and Informatisation Richard Rasi on Wednesday. "Nevertheless, the key objective here is to secure appropriate labour compensation for people who could be affected by the gradual running down of coal mining [as of 2023]," said Rasi.
