An aide to Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that Duda will back the government in its dispute with the European Union, and called the actions of European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans "incomprehensible." Andrzej Dera commneted on a debate on the rule of law in Poland held in the European Parliament on Wednesday. Timmermans called on Poland to further amend its policies on the judiciary, adding that the changes made so far went in the right direction but were insufficient. The official also confirmed that last week, Brussels asked the European Council to give Poland a formal hearing. This is another part of the disciplinary Article 7 procedure, launched by the EC in December 2017.
