Polish president Andrzej Duda said on Friday it was with "great pain" that he learnt of an "act of barbarism" that occurred in Gdansk (northern Poland) on Wednesday, when someone threw a stone at a synagogue window during Yom Kippur prayers. The incident took place at the New Synagogue in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz on Wednesday afternoon. The Forum of Polish Jews announced the attack on Twitter: "Today, during the holy Yom Kippur, an attack took place on the New Synagogue in Gdańsk-Wrzesczcz. The culprit threw a large stone through the window. In the vestibule, where the stone landed, women were sitting waiting for Neila - the closing prayer of Yom Kippur."
