About 500 offtake points of the regional power distributor Stredoslovenska Energetika-Distribucia (SSE-D) were left without electricity in the north of central Slovakia on Monday morning as a result of strong winds, spokesman for the company Miroslav Gejdos told TASR. He went on to say that because of the strong wind, which began breaking trees on Sunday afternoon, thousands of households lost their electricity supply. "Failures were caused mainly by trees having fallen on power lines, which cut the wires and bent some poles. SSE-D workers are gradually trying to restore the electricity supply in all the affected locations," said Gejdos.
