The last surviving Polish World War Two squadron commander, Franciszek Kornicki, won a public vote designed to find WWII's best Spitfire pilot, launched jointly by the Royal Air Force (RAF) Museum and UK daily The Telegraph. Kornicki received 325,000 votes -- sixteen times as many as all other rivals combined -- ahead of Sir Douglas Bader (6,300) and Jackie Moggridge (2,600 votes). The Polish pilot's history and achievements will be presented during an exhibition planned to celebrate the RAF's centenary in 2018.
