Fully 45 percent of respondents to a recent CBOS survey published on Monday declared a 'cool attitude' to Muslims, while 17 percent were more positive. Attitudes were less favourable concerning Muslims compared with other religions or atheists. The research showed that only 14 percent of respondents knew Muslims personally. "The image of Islam and Muslims in Poland is not generally a result of direct contact with people of that faith, as personal acquaintance with a Muslim is declared by only one seventh of respondents (14 percent)," the CBOS said. "In other words: what Poles know about Muslims, they know from the media. The media picture is in turn generally one-sided, because Islam appears most often in the context of terrorism."
