Polish PM: Govt obliged to honour WW2 victims

The Polish government is unreservedly obliged to honour the memory of World War II victims and defend the truth, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on the National Day of Remembrance of Nazi Concentration Camp Victims. PM Morawiecki made the statement during observances marking the Day at the Pawiak Museum in Warsaw. Morawiecki thanked everyone who "honours the memory of the terrible years of the second world war, the Nazi German concentration camps, extermination camps, and camps and prisons like Pawiak." In 2006, Poland's parliament declared June 14 the National Day of Remembrance of Nazi Concentration Camp Victims to mark the first transport in 1940 of 728 Polish political prisoners from the prison in Tarnow to the newly built Auschwitz concentration camp. This date is considered to be the day when the camp began operating.
