The Polish government will support the organisation of the 2023 European Games which will be held in the Polish southern city of Krakow, Deputy PM Jacek Sasin said in Krakow on Thursday. The European Games, an international multi-sport event, were first held in 2015 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and then in Minsk, Belarus in 2019. Krakow will host the third European Games, which are expected to attract athletes from some 50 nations. Sasin said the European Games are "a prestigious, big sporting event." "Poland, a fast-developing country, is interested in holding such sporting events," he added. Sasin also said that Krakow and the Lesser Poland region are "a showcase of Poland" and underscored the city's experience in organising large-scale events, as he mentioned the 2016 World Youth Day, a major Catholic youth festival attended by Pope Francis.
