The Polish government will monitor the European Commission's application of Nord Stream 2 gas regulations which were finally approved on Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Brussels. EU member states finally approved an amendment on Monday to the gas directive, which will concern the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, opposed by Poland as it will supply Russian gas directly to western Europe bypassing eastern EU members. The amendment passed on Monday provides for the undersea section of pipelines on EU territory to be subject to the restrictions of the third energy package. "We will look very closely at the European Commission, how this gas directive is implemented," the head of the Polish government commented after Monday's meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic. Morawiecki said that the Nord Stream 2 project was detrimental to European solidarity.
