The state-run social insurance institution ZUS plans to build a new IT system and is considering only Polish contractors for the job, the daily Rzeczpospolita said on Friday. It is a major investment that cannot leave room for any errors, as the system will be responsible for handling pension and benefits data for over 25 million Polish citizens and will be paying out financial settlements that equal almost one-third of the Polish budget, the paper said. The current system was designed 20 years ago by the Polish IT firm Asseco, but its competitor Comarch has recently won the contract for its maintenance.
