In recent years, poverty in Poland fell faster than in any other European Union country, according to a report released by Eurostat on Monday. Poverty grew fastest in Greece, according to the report. The report's authors note that in 2016, 23.4 percent of the EU's population was threatened by poverty or social exclusion against almost 25 percent in 2009-2012. The percentage of poverty-threatened citizens has fallen most in Poland -- from 30.5 percent in 2008 to 21.9 in 2016 -- followed by Latvia (5.7 points down) and Romania (5.4 points).
