Pellegrini: Alternative to EU exists, but no one wants it

April 11th, 2019

Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said at a discussion entitled 'Slovakia in the EU after 2019' that there was an alternative to European Union membership, but no one wanted it for the country, adding that countries that remained 'stuck' between the West and Russia were doing much worse than Slovakia. "Without membership of the EU and NATO, Slovakia will never be a bridge between East and West, nor will it ever be a new Switzerland or the centre of some new decency in international relations. Because if we were alone, we'd be easy prey, an isolated island that great powers would toy with," the prime minister said.
